I'll be bowling my second Western Women's Premeir Bowler's Tournament Saturday and maybe Sunday. We will bowl 8 games of quaifying across 16 lanes. If there are 40 bowlers, the field will cut to the top 12 for the round robbin match play on Sunday morning.
I met with my coach yesterday and have another session set for tomorrow. He noted two minor issues that were keeping me from being consistent. One issue was clearing the hips and the second was my thrid step was too long. My thought was "Oh no, here we go again!"
The fix was to start with a more "athletic" stanse. He had me sad with a tilt, the left shoulder dropped slightly, knees more bent, and the head almost over the shoulder. I joked he likes make me feel uncoordinated. He said he does it to them all, but some more than others -- I am sure I am one of the some. The reason is this puts the arm into the 'slot' right away and keeps the pendulum swing without adjustment for the hips. It actually wasn't as hard to do as I thought. The akwardness wore off quickly. This change also shortened up the third step.
One final fix and we ended the session. He showed me on video I open my had at release. He had me work on keeping the fingers more closed as I release the ball. What a difference in reaction. I feel more prepared for this tournament than the last one in February.
Wednesday we will just fine tune and work on yesterday's fixes. I can hardly wait for the tournament. I now have a down and in shot, swing shot, and can finally play an inside line!
Any ladies in the SO CAl area, come on out and bowl. The regular dealine has passed, but walk-ins are allowed. Come bowl with some of the best ladies in Southern California!
